Well it doesn't really feel like fall, here in socal. It never really does, but since we've passed daylight savings time, and it has started getting dark before dinner time, I am finally noticing it. The air is cool in the mornings (usually until about nine or ten, and then it could still get up to 70+) and believe it or not, I actually closed the windows a few nights ago, beause I felt chilly. (Ohhhhh!) So it must be autumn!
We've had all sorts of excitment here. David rebuilt my hard drive (thank you David!!!!) It was only forty bazzilion steps, 3200 different screws, and about 5 hours to get the job done, but he managed like a pro! He even through in a memory upgrade since they're so cheap now. WOW! It was quite an undertaking.
Then, he rebuilt his own hard drive, (which has been begging for help for a few months now). But here's the deal, David's hard drive took less than 5 minutes!! No kidding, I was just gearing up for another technical marathon (and wondering why he was starting it so late in the day) and then it was over. Really, he flipped the laptop over, 3 screws out, popped the old harddrive and memory out, new replacments in, and flipped it back over. Plugged it in and: Voila, Presto, Fantasic Computer!
So what's the deal? After all, I've got the cool mac, (could it possibly be an overpriced but nifty ego machine?), and he's got the dull hard-working Compac, which he's done nothing but abuse shamelessly, by the way.
It's true. I baby my electronics. I try not to move them. I keep then in shock absorbing substances. I exhaused the battery regulary, so that they can enjoy a full recharge. (I figure it's like wheatgrass juice for your hardware). I always turn them off, and I do every thing I can to keep them away from humidity, dusty particles, fog, and unpleasant thoughts. Whereas, David throws his compac around, totes it all over the country, and even plugs it in without a surge protector (I gasp!) and then, at the end of the seasons, his older machine outlasts my coddled bundle of superior engineer, and when the time comes for a make over, his laptop jumps into new live, while mine lingers behind, groaning and trying to negociate.
Now, I'm not say that macs are bad. I'm not saying that my sweet little G4 is anything other than a lovely useful machine. And maybe it's the coming of fall that's making me all sentimental, but I am saying is that when the time eventually comes for a replacement, I'm certainly not going to limit myself to mac world. Especially since the rest of the hardware world seems to have discovered colors and style, (not to mention better vaulue), plus the ongoing joy of having all the browsers, websites, and netflix recognize the machine I'm taking on. Just a thought.

Allen went to hang out with some psychic who studies other psychics and he said that they all have trouble with electronics and usually can't even have watches because they brake. So maybe you are just more psychic then David.
Baby update. We are having another baby girl March 22.
